Ways to Make Your Hair Less Greasy

It’s summertime, the weathers super hot and now more than ever my hair starts too look greasy fast which is not a good look! Luckily there are lots of ways to manage your hair and control it from looking greasy too quickly. Here are my favorites:

1. Put Your Hair Up

If you know you’re going to be out and about in the heat, put your hair up in a pony, half pony, messy bun, etc. This avoids your hair from touching your sweaty/oil face and will prevent it from looking greasy quickly.

2. Avoid Touching Your Hair

I have the habit for constantly twirling and touching my hair, moving my hair out of my face, etc. I’ve learned over time that this makes my hair look greasy since my hair absorbs the oils from my fingers. I now try to touch my hair less frequently and already noticed a difference!

3. Wash Your Hair Less

This might sound odd but washing it less often will train your hair to be less oily. When you wash your hair too often, it strips down the oils and triggers your scalp to product more oil causing it to look greasier faster. Try washing it 3-4 times a week and you’ll notice after a few weeks to a month that your hair will adjust and product less oil than usual.

4. Use Dry Shampoo

Use dry shampoo to control greasy hair. To avoid washing your hair too often try using dry shampoo between washes. The dry shampoo will absorb oils, volumize your hair and have it look and smell fresh.

5. Don’t Apply Hair Conditioner on Your Scalp

Applying hair conditioner to your roots and scalp will weigh your hair down and makes your roots look oily. Next time, try only applying the conditioner to the mid-bottom areas of your hair and not the top towards your scalp.

6. Get the Right Products

Try to avoid using heavy products such a gels and hair products such as serums that give your hair some shine. These products might make your hair look perfect the first few hours of wear but after that it will quickly make your hair look greasy.

7. Use Purifying Shampoo

Try using purifying shampoo once a week or at least a couple times a month. This will help remove excess oil build up in your hair and scalp and you’ll find that your hair won’t look greasy so quickly.

8. Don’t Over Brush

Over brushing you hair can stimulate oil production and make your hair look greasy quickly. You should still brush though, just do it less often since it helps distribute natural oils or else they just build up on the scalp.

These are the most helpful tips that made a big different for me! Let me know if you have any tricks of your own or if you tried these tips and they worked for you 🙂
